ABOUT US AND OUR COOKING TRIPS IN SPAIN

cooking tripsOur best garantee for you is our testimonial page, that you can read here, but here are a few things that you should expect when coming with us:

My wife and I have been living in the areas of Barcelona and Girona for 15 years. We have been lucky, as we both are wine and food lovers, to meet and become friends with many chefs, both traditional and creative. This is what caracterises Catalonia’s gastronomy: it hasn’t lost its roots, tradition is still a must for locals but also for creative chefs. Just an example: Chef Joan Roca, with his brothers Josep, sommelier, and Jordi, pastry chef, run a 3 Michelin starred restaurant, El Celler de Can Roca in Girona. Where do they have their lunches and dinners? At their parents restaurant, two blocks away, where it is still very traditional cuisine like stuffed calamary, catalan rice, grilled meat, etc..

This is what we want to share with you during our cooking trips: we will take you to very traditional restaurants, our Chef Vicenç will teach you the basics of Catalan cuisine, but you will also have a sample of creative young chefs and of course a complete tasting menu at El Celler de Can Roca, rated by Restaurant Magazine nº1 in the world, with 9 different wines to accompany chosen by Josep Roca. “An experience of a lifetime”, this is basically what our clients say when they come out of this restaurant.

We also try our groups not to be too large, a small group, as we want you to get all the attention, and of course attend any of your desires. If one day you prefer to stay at the hotel to relax by the pool, and sample a few wines, we will arrange that with the hotel for you. Our visits are quite relaxed, we don’t rush and do too many visits, we rather want you to meet nice people, humble chefs, chocolate and cheese makers, wine specialists, so they can share with you their passion for their art. Because we consider them artists. I am myself a painter and my wife is a ceramist, and we feel related to all these workers who don’t just do, they improve what they do all the time. And they love what they do.

We ALWAYS provide van support

This is what our clients who have become friends say about us and our cooking trips:

cooking trips 2Our English-speaking team is ready to make your Catalan holiday one that you’ll remember.

Meet Yvan. Yvan will be your guide and driver throughout your journey. He founded Spain Taste with his wife, a wine specialist. Yvan speaks fluent English, French, Spanish and a little Japanese.

Yvan’s personal culinary expertise started with Ferran Adria, considered one of the greatest and most innovative chefs in the world. Yvan credits this master chef’s generosity in sharing his knowledge as the spark that kindled his own love of gastronomy. Yvan moved on to study the history of Catalan cooking and met young talented chefs, who were combining traditional recipes with contemporary flair. His association with these chefs, his growing network of local culinary artisans and his wife’s deep knowledge of wines, inspired the creation of Spain Taste.cooking trips 3

Yvan and Yuki have carefully designed tours that will allow you to share their culinary discoveries and adventures. They have painstakingly visited and sampled each restaurant that you will visit, surveying their cellars and assessing their kitchens. The result has been a growing group of travelers from around the world who graciously recommend others to share the enjoyment of Spain Taste. See what we mean!

You can join Yvan in Provence, too. Yvan, a Parisian by birth, lived in Provence before making Spain his home. In addition to his Catalan tours, he also offers several special culinary tours to Provence in association with superb chefs and experts dedicated to maintaining the authentic culinary roots of this magnificent region of southern France. Meet Vicenc Fajardo. Vicenc is our main chef. He has lived not only in Spain, but in Australia as well, where he began his culinary studies. Returning to Spain, he continued his studies at the prestigious Sant Narcis Cooking School of Girona.

Vicenc has worked in many important restaurants like La Cuina de Can Pipes and now runs the Restaurant La Placa, in the charming village of Madremanya, near Girona, with his wife, who is the sommelier, Monica. Vicenc looks forward to sharing his knowledge of Catalan culture and gastronomy – in perfect English – in his own kitchen.
